Rejoice, the Lord is King:
Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
And he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
the holy *catholic Church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

NT Reading: Romans 6:5-14, p. 886
Heidelberg Catechism Lord’s Day 16 (#40, 42, 43)
Minister: Why did Christ have to suffer death?
People: Because God’s justice and truth require it: nothing else could pay for our sins except the death of the Son of God.
Minister: Since Christ has died for us, why do we still have to die?
People: Our death does not pay the debt of our sins. Rather, it puts an end to our sinning and is our entrance into eternal life.
Minister: What further benefit do we receive from Christ’s sacrifice and death on the cross?
People: By Christ’s power our old selves are crucified, put to death, and buried with him, so that the evil desires of the flesh may no longer rule us, but that instead we may offer ourselves as a sacrifice of gratitude to him.

Unison: Almighty and most merciful God: we acknowledge and confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed; that we have not loved You with all our heart and soul, with all our mind and strength; and that we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We implore You, O God, to forgive what we have been, to help us to amend what we are, and in Your mercy to direct what we shall be; so that we may now walk in the way of Your commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
